The shadow of Nathan Rijck, a soldier who died during the First World War, has been captured by a collector. It gives Nathan the chance to come back to life, in exchange for the shadows of 10,000 other people.

I still remember that this short film received quite a bit of praise in the Belgian media at the time, but was almost forgotten today. Stumbled upon it by chance and I must say it was quite fun. Fascinating concept in which a deceased soldier can transform himself back to the land of the living by sending photos of unnatural deaths to a dark creature. The last witnesses of those events emerge as shadows.
Very well done with a special decor and use of color. Almost looks like a fairytale. The moral behind the event also catches on and love and self-sacrifice are central. Although I hold Peter Van den Eede in high esteem, I found him a bit disappointing here as a devil.
