"You will pay for their sins."
Crimson Matthews is released after jail time. He wants to fulfill a promise he made to his cellmate and is stranded in a small town. Crimson decides to look for work, but not everyone in town is happy with his arrival. He is offered a job as a handyman in a dilapidated house. Crimson soon discovers that terrifying things are happening in the house.

Not good.
Penance Lane is a film I came across on YouTube. I'll just drop through the door with that right away. That's why I didn't really have high expectations, but you quickly win me over if you know how to create a good poster. The next surprising element is that Mane manages to take the leading role.
But as you could probably have expected from the title, it turned out to be a lackluster result, which is directed quite poorly. Yet the production feels bigger than you would think, because it looks like they have rented and equipped several locations. In addition, Mane is sometimes quite nice in the leading role, despite the fact that he cannot escape the usual nonsense.
The other members do what they can, but it soon becomes clear that the directors themselves are not in the mood for it. Many confrontations or fights feel incredibly uncomfortable. In one scene where a woman is chained up, she is held down with restraints so large that she can simply slide her hands under them. It's things like that that make this film a rather retarded achievement.
In addition, the actors seem nervous when they have to grab each other, but in the end it is also quite clear that they took the wrong role for Mane. As a mysterious traveler he is perfect, as a savior he doesn't fit in at all. Despite some nice decorations in the house, the film never reaches an impressive level in terms of tension. Rather bland and boring, partly due to the incredibly bare-bones direction.
No, I can't do much with this. These are those films that you occasionally come across, but also quickly forget. In any case, I can say that I was captivated by a beautifully decorated poster, but you will never see the film itself as atmospheric as in the poster. I don't think anyone would recommend this movie to anyone else.
