Excellent short analysis from the gentleman above me. Very slow indeed. In any case, the editing was often spotty, as was the camera work. I sometimes had the feeling of watching a glorified amateur film, in which the story is told somewhat chaotically and flies in all kinds of directions despite the focus always on 1 person. Few memorable scenes, acting was not compelling and the story is a somewhat mediocre development of known themes. The atmosphere is quite moving at times and occasionally beautiful images of Ghana, but that's it. 1.5*.

Intriguing premise about arranged marriages and the position of (young) women, but not enough compelling to really catch on. Not raw or intense enough or the sentiments were a little too much. Not great acting either. The Ghanaian capital Accra is nicely depicted, but I will not remember much more than that from the film. Not very innovative or a little too little pepper to get sucked in.

A disturbing fact is skillfully destroyed by director Kwabena Gyansah through a major lack of focus. So many characters are introduced in Azali that after some time I as a viewer had to search for the exact main character. In addition, it all starts slowly and Asana Alhassan's acting as Amina is downright terrible. We shouldn't expect any emotion from her side, because it seems like she thinks it's all boring. Gyansah's visual direction is not particularly interesting for a story like this. Some authentic images of the Ghanaian landscape are impressive, but significantly little is done to make the heavy story more pressing. Towards the final phase there is a particularly shocking display of violence, but that is all the impression a film like Azali leaves behind. Gyansah looks too hard for the drama and involves far too much to bring it out appropriately. After a while you can no longer see the forest for the trees and the film becomes a tiring task, while the content is very strong. Shame.
