Impressive.

How can I make a horror movie in the present day a little special without spending too much money? Many film directors will probably have to sit down for it. They are certainly ahead of Bustillo & Maury with The Deep House, a horror film that takes place entirely underwater. That alone makes the movie good.

In terms of content, the film is not special, to have said that already. Very standard story with some ghosts that approach the two vloggers, but attractively decorated. Sometimes quite exciting and even underwater, the French directing duo has complete control over the cinematography. Beautiful colors, strong design and very impressive underwater decorations. Towards the end even a full cinema.

The viewer will get little of the acting. It's not that Jagger and Rowe are exceptional acting performances, but they do meet the standard and that seems to be all that matters. Nicely developed characters with just enough background. Once underwater you just don't get much of them anymore. And that's not a bad thing, because the splendor depicted here is the central advantage of the film.

I simply find it very impressive that the makers managed to do this with the idea in mind that they actually dived underwater. Particularly well-designed and atmospheric film that can make full use of its source material. Films like The Deep House impress through the approach but also through the execution, a big bonus.

Perhaps it could have been a bit more exciting at times and the first 15 minutes are a bit less strong, but otherwise this film probably offers what visually minded viewers are looking for in horror films. I could certainly enjoy it and ended the film with a happy face. I hope that Bustillo & Maury can keep up this level for a while longer.

From the makers of the nice but in my opinion also overrated À l'Intérieur (2007) comes the found footage film The Deep House. The special thing about the film is the setting. A haunted house below the water surface. The special location is particularly well exploited in the middle part when two divers visit the house. It's mysterious, ominous and thrilling. The location brings a nice eerie atmosphere. The secret that the house hides arouses curiosity.

As a found footage film, The Deep House, after a long but atmospheric run-up, comes up against the delicate point from which every found footage film suffers. When the situation goes off the rails and sinister events follow one another, it's that time again. The camera starts to shake and behaves erratically. The view of the events is thus successfully taken away from the viewer. The fact that the underwater location is not exactly bathed in daylight makes it even more confusing. The poor image reproduction, which is accompanied by excited screams from the characters, literally and figuratively puts you in the dark. I really had no idea what was going on there under water.

The film is not very interesting in terms of content. As far as the mystery is concerned, the allusions to it are much more exciting than the final unraveling, which, thanks to the help of vaguely visible hectic, does not create tension and leaves much to be guessed. And then the characters. You don't get to know much about the two protagonists who seem to live mainly for the likes on their video channel. Their dialogues are soporific and often superfluous. No. Not great.

The Deep House manages to impress with a fantastic setting, but with colorless characters and a meager story it fails to impress at all. Despite the fresh premise, The Deep House is just another mediocre found footage.

There are a lot of positive reviews here, but I agree with the vast majority on imbd, where it only gets 5.4 by the way, it's a cool concept but that's about it. Horrible dialogues and they make incredibly stupid choices every time...that underwater thing also started to bore me, so much so that staying awake wasn't easy
