Goulag, une Histoire Soviétique plot

After the October Revolution in 1917, the Bolsheviks established the first concentration camps to deal with their political enemies and so-called 'maladjusted'. After Lenin's death in 1922, Stalin came to power, who committed the prisoners to the accelerated industrialization of the country and the collectivization of agriculture. Political prisoners and criminals, both men and women, were forced to perform hard forced labor in inhumane conditions. The number of mass executions and arbitrary arrests steadily increased. At the beginning of 1939 there were about two million prisoners in the camps.
