I'm not really into country music, so I just push her into a corner.

However, the documentary does provide an interesting insight into the life of an interesting woman, who is really a lot smarter than she has always presented herself as.

It turns out that playing 'the dumb blonde' was just always a gimmick to get as far in her career as it has gotten.

As others also indicate, the necessary conversations with 'other stars' are not always of added value, but the documentary is still definitely worth it.

(I also tried to watch a concert after this documentary, but that was a bit too much for me.)

Dolly Parton celebrates her 50th anniversary at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, the stage where every aspiring country musician hopes to one day play. This gives rise to a look back at the life, but especially at the career, of the most famous country singer in the world. Based on her debut single Dumb Blonde and gems such as The Bridge, Coat of Many Colors, 9 to 5 and the inevitable I Will Always Love You, we are reminded (if necessary) of the fact that behind it there is (consciously) Parton's kitschy appearance conceals a musically gifted, intelligent and groundbreaking, self-confident woman who proudly stood tall in a period when sexism was more the rule than the exception. Interesting, even though it is one big hymn without a single critical voice.
