Hajimari no Bōkenshatachi Rejendo obu Kurisutania plot
At the end of the Record of Lodoss War series, Ashram, Pironess and their followers leave the island of Lodoss in search of new land. They arrive after a long journey near the island of Crystania, which is ruled by animal gods. To gain access to Crystania, Ashram makes a pact with the evil animal god Barbas. Pirotess then sets out to release her Ashram from this pact.

I had mixed expectations for the two Crystania animations. High, because it is a kind of sequel to the very good Record of Lodoss War, but lower expectations due to the opinions I hear and had already seen online.
After the first viewing I was disappointed, because it was nowhere near the level of Lodoss. Years later, now knowing better what to expect, and being able to see it more separately from Lodoss, I suddenly found it a much more enjoyable film (and OVA[ /url]). I still think the drawing style is considerably inferior to Lodoss, but the animation is well done (possibly logical, if your drawings are so much simpler), the characters are interesting, and the soundtrack is fine. What interested me most was the world of Crystania itself. The film and OVA succeed well in giving the viewer a glimpse into the world of Crystania, how it came about, what laws there are, what role the gods play, etc. It all feels like a foretaste for the books, which unfortunately have not been published in the west (there are well-written fan translations on the Record of Lodoss War Wiki).
