This moving film about coming of age on an Indian reservation in Quebec tells a tender story about two best friends, whose paths diverge when they make different choices on the threshold of adulthood. A warm film with atypical personal development, not to mention a few beautiful poems.

The cast consists almost entirely of indigenous Innu Indians with no acting experience, which also ensures that the film looks authentic. A very beautiful film, made with a lot of empathy.

Solid film about the story of 2 friends from the Canadian Innu community. A kind of coming-of-age story about love, future and loyalty. And it is mainly Mikuan who struggles with this fact. Facts that we have seen repeatedly in other (arthouse) films in which young people from small ethnic or cultural communities cannot resist the call of the outside world, but then collide with incomprehension from their own community.

Here, too, you notice major differences between the white outside world and the small enclaves of people with a different culture, religion or skin colour. The other is tolerated but not accepted and is watched with suspicion. It is even seen as a kind of betrayal or renunciation of one's own traditions. Significant here was the scene of the two girlfriends arguing about the fact that Mikuan wanted to continue studying at one or the other university.

Great acting by the very inexperienced cast. As a result, the whole thing comes across as natural and authentic. The cultural baggage you get is simply enriching. I wasn't 100% included in the film, but it sure is rock solid.

This movie got off to a slow start. Initially I found it especially interesting that it was about an Eskimo group in Canada. An indigenous population whose land had also been taken away by strangers. Just like the Indians in America and the Aboriginals in Australia. But this population group is much less known. It seems to be about the friendship between two girlfriends and how their lives develop. Not a real high flyer. But appearances are deceiving. The film builds up very slowly. And all puzzle pieces slowly fall into place despite often abrupt transitions in the story. And the acting performances are actually very nice along the way. A film that you clearly have to watch to the end to appreciate it.
