It had its moments but I don't know what exactly was wrong with it but it wasn't always exciting. The Rock's jokes may have been bland, but I still thought they were really funny at times. Emily Blunt always has such a stoic look, a good actress would but I don't know if she was really suited for this kind of work. A legend that comes to life is somehow original and it reminded me the most of Pirates of The Caribbean in terms of atmosphere. Somehow I had hoped for more of a kind of The Librarian or Indiana Jones, but it's not in that style. Jumanji also comes close or maybe a Journey to the Center of The Earth. That reminds me that I still need to see Jumanji 2.

In this very entertaining and fun film we follow three people into the jungle. Doctor Lily is a mixture of Rachel Weisz and Lara Croft. She is literally and figuratively wearing the pants. Whether she's up against the Imperial von Preußen family, a tribe of headhunters or wild animals, she always stands her ground (eat that patriarchy!). Lily breaks gender roles as she tries to save the world. Her brother is obviously queer and that is nicely emphasized. You'd almost expect The Rock to take on the role of nonbinary fairy captain to complete the Jungle Pride. But against all odds, he still plays his old-fashioned peddling role who isn't afraid to break a nail during the Amazon trek.

I read here that they started filming in Hawaii, but most of the film is in CGI anyway. That didn't bother me, though, because it's so slick. It all looks very good and maintains the whole playing time. The pace is good, only in the second half I thought it was all a bit too much.

The film is reminiscent of Jumanji, The Mummy and Indiana Jones. Those who liked it will also enjoy it.
