How would you react if you were told that you are terminally ill? When film producer Kees Rijninks, the husband of filmmaker Carmen Cobos, is diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, their world collapses. After months of sadness, anger and denial, they are now trying to find balance in their lives. In Together they follow a group of terminally ill patients, their partners and their neurologist for a year. They look for the answer to the question of how people deal with the knowledge that they will slowly waste away and never get better. Do they find the resilience to continue to give meaning to their lives in a positive way, under sometimes hopeless circumstances?

Filmmakers Kees Rijninks and Carmen Cobos met in 1992 and work and live together. Kees has been diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Kees and Carmen speak to three couples, one single man, to gain insight into what awaits them, but especially to know how they can best move forward together. The interviewees deserve credit for their mothers for speaking about what Parkinson's does to their lives, both physically and psychologically. A valuable film for anyone who has or has had to deal directly or indirectly with this devastating disease. Cobos and Rijninks made the sequel Together Alone 4 years later.
