Decent documentary about the short life and suicide of Michael Hutchence, singer of the Australian band INXS. The visual approach, archival images superimposed with interview fragments and comments from those involved, works excellently and a lot of work has clearly gone into collecting useful material. Yet you don't really get to know the person behind the idol and many questions remain unanswered. As a result, the documentary falls short emotionally, no matter how cleverly everything is put together.

Good.

Well made documentary. Cool (amateur) images, well put together and with quite a bit of pace, without ever coming across as too fast or too fragmentary. I don't really think INXS is a great band - a few cool pop songs, but that's it. And Michael Hutchence doesn't come out of this documentary any better either. His track record when it comes to clean fruity ladies is pretty good, but I think it's just a faggot type. Very self-conscious, constantly working with the camera. That may be a requirement to become a world star, but it can annoy me.

The last section logically focuses on the bigger problems of his life. I actually always thought that he was just another 'world star' who had 'accidentally' taken an overdose, but that is a bit different. His accident in 1992 puts things in a different light, but apart from that, Hutchence is also just one of the many who had a hard time with the popularity and everything around it.

3.5
