Ring of Dreams plot

His great hero was Hulk Hogan, who inspired him as a six-year-old to eventually become a professional wrestler himself. Now Tengkwa himself trains a new generation of Dutch show wrestlers, in a world where fantasy and reality intersect. With hopes of fame and glory, but with little money to fulfill their dream, only the die-hards of iron willpower and miles of perseverance will succeed. The documentary gives a look behind the scenes of show wrestling in the Netherlands, where boys and girls fight for their dreams, and try to escape from their daily lives.

I'm not into wrestling/martial arts, but I found this documentary interesting. I think show wrestling has something special, I think it is beautiful, clear and colorful and fun to follow the people who practice this sport, or who want to become a show wrestler. Nice length, not too long. It didn't get boring. I found the violence very painful to watch at times. I don't like violence. No downsides. A 7. 3.5*

The setting of this documentary is very reminiscent of Darren Aronosky's The Wrestler. Under the mentorship of the ever-masked Tengkwa and the sardonic (and sometimes downright mean) Emili Sitoci, a new crop of dreamers tries to make a good start in the world of professional wrestling at Pro Wrestling Holland. One of the newcomers in the young, petite Christian. Showcasing the grueling training that goes into this and of course includes footage of the performances of established names, but also includes candid interviews with the wrestlers making this a valuable, interesting and at times amusing addition to The Wrestler.

Yesterday I attended a PWH event for the first time and watched Ring Of Dreams in preparation.

Sympathetic little documentary about approachable boys (and girls) who, in addition to the everyday worries, pursue their dream as a professional wrestler.
