Quite fun.

Like most of Sato's movies actually. In recent years he has worked his way up to an extremely skilled blockbuster director, it's just a pity that this kind of film doesn't come to our cinemas. It is ideal entertainment fodder, nothing more, nothing less.

A classic story, perhaps the only special one is that it takes place in China, but the entire cast is Japan. Also in the East it is apparently difficult to cast by nationality. Furthermore, there is another country that needs to be united, resulting in a lot of war. It's not exactly the first movie of its genre.

Starts quite nice, the only real downside I found is that the middle part is just a bit too slow and talkative. Could have been a little tighter, so the film would have been a bit shorter. Fortunately, that means that the finale is just all action. Not super high level, but certainly entertaining enough, with a few above average moments.

This is not high-quality cinema, but it is a nice and easy snack.

Surprising. A Japanese action fantasy about the very beginning of the unification of China. Little story, but all the more sword fights. All very bombastic. So not my thing. This does not only apply to me, by the way. The ever-charming Masami Nagasawa also has little business in this kind of production, I think.

Passed with distinction.
Essentially a fairly predictable film about the rise of the first emperor of China, but this is packaged as an adventurous and hip film with a touch of fantasy, starting from a house slave who dreams of becoming a great general to become. So more of a light-hearted adventure film than a war film like Red Cliff, which took itself too seriously with strategic whining. And that pays off!

I really liked some scenes, like Shin and the king meeting the hill tribe. More ridiculous was that owl disguised woman. In such films there must always be such a silly character apparently. I enjoyed myself from start to finish. One of the best in this genre. A small 4*
