"Fear the legend"
William and his family have financial problems. Everything changes when his father dies and he inherits a farm. He and his family move to the farm to start a new life. William meets Lazarus, the helper who took care of his father. Williams' daughter Mary also bumps into Lazarus. A bond develops, but after a while it turns out that Lazarus is hiding a dark secret.

Nice.
Films like this always have an edge. Local folklore ensures that it is always more mysterious than just another haunted doll, zombie outbreak or vampire film. Because the rules are not immediately known, you always have an extra layer of tension on the film.
In addition, the performance of this 8 is simply very strong. Neatly depicted, the actors do a really good job and at times there are some very nice and memorable scenes. It may not be really scary, but it is still atmospheric and even though the ending shifts down a gear, it is still quite fitting.
The film lacks something to really stand out, but the quality is otherwise impressive. A nice discovery, this film. Holscher is certainly someone to keep an eye on, although it doesn't even have to be within the horror genre. This is a nice video.

The film has a good story, but unfortunately the delivery of the supernatural wasn't that strong. The premise is creatively conceived, but halfway through the result is disappointing. Tshamano carries the film, and this makes for an entertaining ride. Nice to watch once, but that's about it.

Small, South African horror film that I added to the site myself years ago. It's somewhat within the level I expected from a film like this. A director with a lot of ambition would like to make a horror film that has a little more to say than the average Boo! horror and therefore places a strong focus on the atmosphere and underlying legends, but falls short when it really comes to atmosphere. It's a shame, because if a large part of the event has to have that same atmosphere, then you quickly end up with a somewhat limited film. A film that fails to excel at what it hopes to excel at. I found the mysterious threat mainly uninteresting, but I thought Sebe's character as a justification for the same threat was very successful. Strongly acted, but I am actually pleased with the entire cast. Towards the finale, the film also dares to go in a different, original direction that gives The Soul Collector that special touch it was looking for. It doesn't save the entire film, but it does keep Holscher from falling into complete mediocrity.
