Woke Christmas. In the run-up to this ''remake'' of the highly respected Bob Clark classic, there's actually been plenty of talk about the film's pushy feminist nature and I'm guessing that in the aftermath this horrible spectacle will only get worse. The problem is of course not feminism per se; The horror genre has long been a genre that is extremely focused on female empowerment and usually according to the 'actions speak louder than words' principle. 'The final girl' is not without reason one of the most important and fun genre tropes. Black Christmas takes a slightly different approach and mainly uses a lot of buzzwords that they learned in their gender studies. In any case, it does not do the important themes such as sexual abuse any favors, because the pedantic / man-hating tone takes over. If the choice also falls on a PG-13 treatment, there is hardly any film left. This apparently came from Takal himself to ''reach a younger female audience''. So what are you saying is that films should be 'softened' for that group? Seems to me - according to their own logic - quite stigmatizing... Rarely seen such a pointless project.

“You messed with the wrong sisters.”

Mediocre. Director Sophia Takal clearly wanted to make a remake of Black Christmas (1974) with a feminist slant, but she forgot that the 1974 version already had a story about strong women taking on a stalker. With Margot Kidder, what more could you want?

This new version lacks a lot of things, but the worst part is that it is just deadly boring and the film seems more like a political pamphlet than an entertaining slasher/stalker film. It's all so transparent and predictable, from the boyfriend who calls his girlfriend 'hysterical', the sexist teacher to the white men who of course all turn out to be serial killers.
