Horrible episode.

Clearly a mental duplicate of San Junipero, one of the most popular episodes of Black Mirror - which also didn't really appeal to me.

Now the coming-out (or at least bi-curiousness)of two men as the main focus and what better way to develop that through a typically male activity (gaming).

One is settled and civil, the other successful and independent, but both unsatisfied in their life path. It takes a while for the ball to roll and my worst objections are that it is all put into effect very transparently, but above all: how much time and repetition the episode requires.

For me, that scene in the restaurant between husband and wife is exemplary of the episode as a whole. A dialogue in which every word-counterword is actually constantly repeated, ("Is there something?" "No, there is nothing", "Really?" "No, really not") without any development. As if not only is the idea too simple for an episode, they also need (poorly written) filler to fill that hour.

So basically the same principle regarding the playing time: attract-repel, deny-give in, with an easy denouement as the icing on the cake. In a somewhat homophobic country like America you might have to take the viewers by the hand a little more, at a certain point I thought it became an annoying repetition of moves.

The use of minorities also feels opportunistic, especially in the game itself, where the acting is really pitiful. Weak episode that beats around the bush for far too long. 1.5*

I could have known. With the exception of a few episodes, the Black Mirror episodes ended in a disappointing manner. Again... Against my better judgment I was looking forward to season 5, but it isn't really any better for a while.

The plot is actually too ridiculous for words. Two best friends discover that they are gay through Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter lookalikes in VR . Can it get any crazier? What follows is a lot of repetition in VR and in between all the endless worrying where clichés are not avoided. Yawn, it's all quite annoying. The confrontation is what it is and the film ends as Black Mirror often ends: within the compromise everyone goes their own way and life goes on as usual.

The film has little to it and is not intriguing at all. BM unworthy, too bad. Two more to go then?

A nice concept, but it also feels a bit forced to incorporate a hip social theme. Then it actually becomes a cheating story that we have seen countless times, but in the virtual setting. The 'real life' drama is extremely standard. We have also seen the technology with the button on the head in BM before. It takes too long to remain interesting, if it even was. Acting also mediocre. Nice attempt, and they also manage to make a funny ending, but not a brilliant start to a new season.
