'Axis Sally' tells the true story of an American radio host named Mildred Elizabeth Gillars. During the Second World War she worked for the Nazis with a view to spreading propaganda. Loved and hated by the American military, she was nicknamed Axis Sally. After the war, she was charged with treason and sentenced to prison.

A bit double, this movie. Good for the history aspect and the lead role of Al Pacino (although he looks lousy on the movie poster). Less good because of some details and Williams' starring role. As for the latter: if you're wearing heavy make-up the entire movie and then get happy that you get a mirror as a gift in jail, something isn't right. The entire setting of the film was too clean: the sets and props were just missing something. About the details: funny that during the trial in the USA they used a Webster Chicago wire recorder when the Germans already had a tape recorder; this is right. But what was wrong, for example, was that they were listening to radio Berlin in the USA without any beeps, creaks or a 'Mexican dog'. As for the plot, the closing arguments of the prosecution and defense, respectively, were completely disproportionate.
For those who missed it: on one of the eight charges, Axis Sally was sentenced to 30 years in the film, of which she ultimately served 12.
