Kees Vliegt Uit plot

Follow-up on 'The Best for Kees'. As a result of this documentary, his parents received financial aid, with which they could purchase a house for Kees. In 'Kees Vliegt Uit' filmmaker Monique Nolte follows the separation process between parents and son. Because of the symbiotic bond between mother and Kees, the question is whether they can still live without each other. A fully furnished house is now ready, but Kees wants to stay with his mother for the time being and uses this house as an 'office' for the time being. What happens to Kees when his parents can no longer take care of him? Will he still be able to build a relatively independent life?

Wasn't familiar with this but my girlfriend set this up yesterday afternoon. It was equally difficult to get in because you actually kind of have to assume that you know Kees. But you get to know him pretty quickly. Among all the trivial matters such as the weather that he worries about, a larger theme naturally grows. That he eventually has to be on his own and that his parents are actually the only people in his life he really has contact with. And the weather is something he genuinely cares about, but it's also a reason for him to reach out to others. When his parents visibly deteriorate, he seeks refuge elsewhere. He is looking for something that doesn't exist, a replacement for his mother. And that's pretty tragic to watch. It is nice to see that there is a big difference between his parents and his brother Jasper. His parents actually pamper him, but know exactly how to deal with him. The same goes for his brother. He always says exactly the right things, but he doesn't pamper Kees too much and also clearly sets his limits. Something that Kees may need more in his life, without him realizing it. Because he dumped Ellen for the same reason. But as soon as it is not family, you immediately notice that it is difficult for him to admit it and especially the lack of eye contact clearly shows this.

The documentary mainly registers and leaves you with a smile and a tear. The problem with this is that it cannot be controlled. It actually also ends at a moment that is not quite pleasant. Because in the end we didn't get an answer to the question: what to do with Kees when his parents die, and specifically his mother?

Perhaps we will see this in a sequel.
