Adelbert plot

Artist Joris Hansma is financially in trouble. He wants to end it, but even he can't seem to do it. His girlfriend Maria is also miserable enough to commit suicide. They plan to put a car on an unguarded level crossing to be crushed by a train. An anything but depressing picture of a couple who wants to commit suicide.

Alex van Warmerdam does indeed appear briefly in the film, a small cameo as the landlady's son at the very end. The setting, the story, the underlying cynical humor that is present, it certainly resembles one of Warmerdam.

Wonderfully dry and very intriguing characters who live more alongside society than in it. The house is a mess, and so are the ghosts of George and Maria. Nice ending also when you notice that the misery only increases, you really feel sorry for the man and then end with a joke. Fine!
