Widow of Silence plot

Aasia works as a nurse at a hospital in Kashmir to support herself, her 11-year-old daughter and her ailing mother-in-law. She is, as it is known here, a 'half-widow': her husband is, like many men in this Indian region; arrested and never returned. In addition to her work and caring for her family, Aasia spends a lot of time trying to obtain her husband's death certificate; a hopeless game that she has been playing with a calculating official for seven years.
