"A teenage mind is a terrifying place"
Alex has a close relationship with her best friend Abraham, a shy boy who is very insecure due to the relationship he has with his parents. Their lives change when Abraham's father is killed in a freak accident. This puts Alex in a strange world where reality and fiction, especially nightmares, are difficult to distinguish.

Quite a nice psychological event with some slight excursions into horror and fantasy. What I had difficulty with was finding sympathy for the main characters, who are written very broadly but barely manage to be anywhere memorable. I also didn't think Iván Pellicer's acting was very strong, which makes it difficult to get a feel for the bond that the two teenagers share. Fortunately, directors Alvea and Ortuño have done a better job with the design and that results in several separate scenes that are unexpectedly presented in a strong way. The pleasant positioning of the camera as well as the colorful decoration of several scenes create an excellent, surreal atmosphere. The film is never really exciting, but that is not what a film like Ánimas relies on. It is a film that is written a little more cleverly than the average bite-sized horror, which I also enjoy, but that is precisely why films like this are more than nice for once.
