Chinese Portrait plot

Passengers on a train, tourists on the beach, factory workers, farmers, construction workers, students. In a series of portraits, the Chinese feature film director Wang Xiaoshuai captures the state of his country. Each portrait consists of a longshot, captured with an immovable camera, in which one or more people pose motionless. The modern China that the director shows is a colorful collection of new buildings, old courtyards, dilapidated industrial estates, countryside and large cities. The endless amount of construction projects is particularly striking. The film is a motionless, non-narrative snapshot, as if all unstoppable change has been halted for a moment.
