Jij Bent Mijn Vriend plot

You have to learn to make friends and that goes by trial and error. In this documentary, directors Petra and Peter Lataster film the lively six-year-old Branche who has just come to the Netherlands from Macedonia with his parents and is going to school for the first time. He doesn't speak the language and doesn't know anyone. Finding a friend turns out not to be so easy. Branche has to keep standing in Miss Kiet's class between classmates with whom he does not share a language or common background. The documentary follows Branche from the panic of his first day at school to a confident boy in Master Wout's class.
