Director Brian Cavallaro makes a smart move by shooting the majority of Against the Night in Holmesburg Prison. That is an American prison location where experiments were previously carried out on people, so the current ghost status is not surprising. However, Cavallaro is not concerned with the legend and therefore looks for the threat from a completely different side. A group of stupid teenagers with a surplus of hormones enter the abandoned prison with cameras and all and from there things obviously escalate, but the advantage is that the acting is not without merit and the choice of location brings its own atmosphere. From there, Cavallaro doesn't do much to evoke any form of fear and seemed to become completely desperate towards the finale, which means that the film very quickly becomes bogged down in nothingness. Nice atmospheric images left and right and I found the run-up quite entertaining, but it is not high-quality horror material at all. A small refresher in the Amityville series after all the previous crap.

The place they're entering is terrifyingly massive, especially since their in the dark at night, like dark want enough for them. These guys found themselves in trouble pretty much as soon as they possibly could, and that is never a good sign for our characters.

You literally won't believe the twist, and it's an interesting film, to say the least.
