The Distant Barking of Dogs plot
Ten-year-old Oleg lives in the village of Hnutove (Donetsk region) in eastern Ukraine, the war zone where the sounds of anti-aircraft guns and missile strikes can be heard almost daily. Sometimes far, sometimes frighteningly close. At school he gets instructions about the bomb shelter and what to do if you come across mines. While many people have left the dangerous area, Oleg and his grandmother, who has been taking care of him since his mother's death, remain.
