She has received many awards for her prose and poetry for young and old, including a Gouden Griffel and the AKO Literature Prize. Yet she is virtually unknown in the Netherlands. Joke and her work are authentic and accessible, but something prevents her from drawing attention to herself. She seems to have chosen a pleasant exile.
