I'm a lot less impressed. A new director, a plot that I always like and a poster that appeals to the imagination. Unfortunately, JS Wilson - apparently consisting of the trio James Zimbardi, Skyler Caleb and Woodrow Wilson Hancock - makes a serious mistake with a story that hangs together from loose sand.

Adam receives a call from his brother Jake to locate their missing mother. Once they arrive, they are kindly received, mainly by employees of a company called Gateways. What's in a name... Furthermore, daughter Emma receives a lot of attention from the local residents. Quite predictable, but that doesn't matter as long as everything fits together.

Unfortunately, there are many questions that remain unanswered. Who exactly is Shadowman and why does he look like that? How did the cult come about? Everything is so superficial that it seems like nothing has been done. Those scenes at the demolition had no function at all, but seemed more like an excuse to have some unsavory people appear. Thatburnt son in the attic was also quite out of the blue.

The music was nice at times, but sometimes it was suddenly far too strong. The acting was mediocre to poor. The worst came from Angela who appears out of nowhere and disappears almost as quickly. But Jake was also really drumming up the script. Although the film reminded me of Rosemary's Baby because of the theme, it doesn't come close in terms of suspense. In short, a missed opportunity.

No real horror. No blood. No creepy setting or terrifying story. A few scares. But of course, some simple jump scares that are created very cheaply by blasting loud music won't cut it.

The story is shaky and the various subplots do not fit together. Very unsatisfying to watch characters and situations with no apparent connection to other characters or situations.

Without exception, the characters are very flat. We simply don't know anything about their motivations. In this way, empathy will of course not be of any use. It certainly doesn't make the film any more enjoyable to watch.

It is also a very superficial story. Things just happen. Barely any background or insight into anything is given.

The same goes for the creep from the film title. Just a figure that decorates the film without making it clear why he is there in the first place. Well, there are some suggestive clues, but they are too vague to be satisfactory. And if he was still impressive, that Shadow Man, it would be easier to overlook a carelessly constructed plot, but he does not impress in any way.

So much has not been successful. Something has also been successful. A certain oppressive atmosphere is palpable. An atmosphere that is mainly evoked by good and moody camera work.

Other than that it's not much. Well, the poster is okay too, of course.
