An unborn baby survives an attack at an abortion clinic. Twenty years later, at Christmas, the misfit tries to win back his mother's love. When she lets him throw her out of her house, he takes revenge on all family members.

Somewhere in sunny Australia, Christmas is being celebrated in the traditional way in a house. From all corners of the country, relatives gather at the parental home and the clichés begin. People get stuffed, argue about old hurts and remember why they avoided family members for the rest of the year. Nothing new under the sun.
The film carries the horror label, so it is not surprising when a murderous threat suddenly appears. And also not surprising...... there is a link with the past. Not that this is of any importance, by the way. Just a rudimentary way to wrap up the story. What matters is that a dark figure with limited brain capacity and physical deformities takes murderous actions against the family members.
The killer's performance is not very exciting and actually only causes irritation. This also applies to the other characters. Terrible people. You can only expect stupid actions and nonsensical dialogue from such characters. We are not disappointed. The irritation about so much nonsense is taking on serious proportions. Fortunately, most of the blood-irritating elements are removed by the killer and that provides relief.
Unfortunately, the killer does not exhaust his creativity and the camera succeeds perfectly in not capturing a single kill. The camera always beckons away just in time for explicit action to take place off-screen. The off camera work is of great class. The funsplatter factor is therefore zero. The film does not score with this either. Humor and atmosphere? No. Also not. Although it must be said that the score does add some atmosphere and is therefore the best element of the film. That fact says a lot. Red Christmas is a crappy movie.
