Rubbish.

A film that tries to piggyback on the good name of Andersen's fairy tale. And of course also the success of Disney's cartoon. It doesn't have much to do with it, except that it's a movie about mermaids. Nice and easy.

The production itself looks more like a TV movie. Bad actors, shot cheaply and bored and with a lot of cheap special effects. The music was also not really enjoyable, especially those classical tinkles when something "magical" happened again.

Nice and easy cash this. Tar to name, otherwise just deliver a half-hearted production and people will watch it sometime. You must already be a big fan of the romantic fantasy genre to get some fun out of this. I found it mostly bad and sleep-inducing.

1.0*

Aiii... I'm easily satisfied with a nice feel-good movie, but even I can't make much of it. Just too fake, too exaggerated, too little story. My 10-year-old son "liked it", but mainly because of the fun factor of watching together.

The atmosphere is quite nice, quite a few nice pictures, but just completely unbelievable.

Sorry, missed opportunity.

A grandmother [Shirley MacLaine] tells her granddaughters Lily [Lexy Kolker] and Rose [Claire Crosby] the story of a critically ill Elle [Loreto Peralta], who, with her Uncle Cam [William Moseley], seizes straw in the form of supposedly curative 'mermaid water', sold by Dr Locke [Armando Guitierrez]. When Cam comes face to face with Locke's mermaid [Poppy Drayton], he falls head over heels for her. A visibly cheap production with an unappealing cast. Most of the budget apparently went to MacLaine's wages, which incidentally only makes a limited contribution. The story is not bad, but the sparks do not fly especially here.
