Remarkably good.

Not exactly a well-known movie, but that turned out to be wrong. This Alfred Cheung had more to offer than I expected. Maybe it's because the poster doesn't cooperate right away.

In itself it is a fairly typical Hong Kong police thriller, like so many made in the 80s. With some internal conspiracies and a policeman who has to flee from his own men. But in terms of presentation, the film is a bit more stylish.

Reminded me a little bit of Besson (Léon, Nikita) now and then, visually of Wong Kar-Wai's work (but never so outspoken). In both cases it can't match the material it reminds of, but it's not that far away either. And since those police thrillers were usually not the sexiest HK movies, that's a big plus for this film.

Very fast paced, fast paced story and fun characters. It's also a bit of a no-brainer, I'm afraid it won't last very long, but it is noticeably better than many similar films from that time.

3.5*
