I ordered the special edition via Zavvi, because this is a film that I know in advance that I will like.

A Silent Voice completely lives up to expectations. The film gets off to a somewhat slow start and I think the premise is rushed through a bit too hastily at the beginning of the film. But fortunately the film slowly takes the time to fully understand Ishida and Nishimiya. I read things here about people not being able to empathize with the characters and not understanding their behavior. That the kids in the film are incomprehensible and that they do not always act logically. I can understand it, but on the other hand it is also a world that we as adults have completely outgrown and requires more of our empathy. Teenagers behave completely differently in their peer group than in the presence of their parents. Bullying, childish fuss and especially things that simmer on for far too long. Something I encounter almost every day in high school. We all wonder what those children are concerned about, but at the same time it certainly plays a role and it is something that you have to respond to as an adult.

A Silent Voice is therefore also a very adult film. It addresses different perspectives and also that the bully struggles with this throughout his childhood. Ishida is excluded and has difficulty making contact with the world. Visually this is beautifully expressed with the blue crosses and camera angles that do not reach higher than the mouth. Anonymous and lonely. The tragic story is told with ups and downs. Maybe a little too long, but oh so impressive. You really get completely sucked into the world of teenagers.

It is a pity that the film is not very accessible and asks a lot of the viewer, because this is an excellent issue that can be addressed in (digital) bullying in secondary schools.

A worthy subject in itself, and although I find the faces a bit annoying, it was generally beautifully animated with an eye for detail. With, for example, those crosses as an interesting element. But I still couldn't do much with this. Now it's true that I've outgrown my primary school days for a while, but I couldn't deal with how everyone behaved the way they did. It was more than two hours of strange decisions and twists, with many former classmates coming into the picture again, and especially what struck me as a lot of fuss about nothing. Fortunately, there was often a nice scene in between and the backgrounds are often very beautifully done, but this was still too far out of my alley to really enjoy it. And then more than two hours is quite a lot of time.

Not quite as good as ''your name'' or ''weathering with you'' or '''belle'' but it comes close, this has more to do with what ste* says, the relationships between themselves are not well developed and you are left with who they are trying to be, but everyone is stuck in their own drama. At one point I thought the film was too long, but I was still attracted by the beautiful colors and environments and the atmosphere. I didn't expect at all what was going to happen life is too much so this is my end only to be saved and then something bad still happens, I didn't want this at all for the characters I completely freaked out because of that because I didn't want the movie to end like that. Not necessarily because of this, but at a certain point I wanted the film to be longer, among other things, the mutual struggles were not resolved or the two involved did not come together as a couple. To be honest, I also think it is stupid that no one and especially not shouya says to the deaf girl you are worth living.
