Successful film that starts slowly but grabbed me halfway through. The first half is a bit tough because it is not yet clear where the film is going and then it is a bit boring, but when it becomes clear halfway through that it is about honor killings, the film becomes exciting because is he going to kill her or not (which incidentally made me It is always surprising that as a Western viewer you realize this faster than the people themselves, so that it seems that we have more knowledge of, in this case, such a Kurdish culture than the Kurds themselves…)? In fact, the film is then pure horror: only the fact that honor killings are 'culture' means that they are called drama instead of horror. Anyway, Kalifa manages to ramp up the tension as Zagros has to choose between his family and his wife - both in terms of their stories and literally - and he slowly becomes paranoid (and he seems to lose both parties because he cannot or will not choose); the film also has a few twists so that you are put on the wrong track for a while.

Zagros is an excellent film about a family drama laced with cultural and religious values. A story that also fits within the current trends of the large flows of migrants. We follow a shepherd who is more than good for his relationship and spends more time with his sheep in the mountains than with his own wife. His beautiful wife is quite Western and has not fallen on her mouth. She is accused of skewed shit, false or not and Zagros is placed between two fires.

The choice is a real dilemma: choose your family, a family that is sacred in itself, or choose your wife with the consequence that you betray your family. This tension is excellently depicted in the film, partly due to the good acting performances and good atmosphere setting. Zagros eventually loses track and this tension leads to a climax at the end. Although the dilemma goes even further: your own identity as a man is also questioned. Can you call yourself a man if you can't even control your wife?

Very strong film, one that stays with you. Beautiful images, well acted, beautiful theme. But above all a strong story that never collapses and retains its tension. Anyway, the fact is that you don't solve problems by running away. Havin and Zagros also established this when they lived in Brussels.

Decent but not exceptional film. It was clear from the start where this was going, and in the end it was also clear with the cousin who declares to be gay . But otherwise, this is a gripping account of how jealousy, doubts and lack of confidence have poisoned Zagros's judgment to the point of losing his mind. No, you just can't understand the Kurdish shepherd Zagros. He appeared immature and possessive, in the clutches of his father and virtually incapable of empathizing with his wife. This was really well acted and directed with great control; hopefully Kalifa will still make films.
