Very confusing movie (or I had too much wine), but definitely not scary or bloody-in-a-nice-way. I haven't seen part 1 yet, I understand I picked the wrong Evil Dead Trap...

1*.

Aaaaiiii. Incredibly mediocre sequel to the wonderful cult classic that is part 1.

Ikeda did not direct this second part and that is unfortunately noticeable. Gone is the inventiveness in terms of kills and camera work. Gone is the build-up of tension. And also a big miss: gone is unfortunately also the earworm soundtrack from the original. Although it must be said that the soundtrack of this 2nd part is still one of the better things about this film.

Furthermore, in terms of story and style, it is almost incomparable to part 1. This 2nd part feels like a kind of hallucinatory dream. A long dream, that is. Because it all goes quite slowly. The incoherent story also does not want to captivate at all and in terms of kills and gore it is VERY tame.

The last fifteen minutes make up for it. Otherwise the rating would have been even stronger. Then it finally gets going with gore, a bloody fight between white sheets with a nice soundtrack as accompaniment, and the birth of a male head. It shows for a moment how bizarre the Japanese can work. But that doesn't change the fact that the remaining 75 minutes are incredibly boring.
