Fine!

It's a bit of a shame that a film like this is all too easily forgotten. Seems like a large production to me, there is clearly sufficient budget behind it and the final result is also quite impressive. Only there seems to have been very little advertising about this film, as I don't remember seeing any of it around the time it came out.

Luckily I was able to catch up, I like these types of films. Adaptation of old fairy tales, worked out in a rather mischievous way. That means with the necessary humor, but also with the dark edges intact. That makes it all just that little bit more fun.

I have no idea whether reeling through the different fairy tales was such a good idea, but on the other hand I didn't find it immediately disturbing. Not that it is difficult to follow, on the other hand the overlap is so limited that you wonder what the added value of one story is. But that certainly doesn't make or break the film.

It's a bit of a shame that there aren't just a few more memorable scenes, but otherwise a very entertaining film, recommended for anyone who likes darker fairy tales.

Beautiful imaginative fairy tale, although it didn't exactly look like that at the beginning. Initially I found it difficult to keep my attention, which was certainly due to the characters that did not immediately appeal to me. This immediately changed the moment the very beautiful Violet (Bebe Cave) appeared on the scene. The scene in which she played that banjo-like instrument was worth framing, so beautiful. Well, I have a soft spot for beautiful young ladies and if they emerge as winners at the end then that is of course even better.
Horror moments were quite scarce in this colorful film, although those scenes with that monstrous giant did have something terrifying. Those weren't exactly fun scenes, but they fit well with the story.

Special. It's certainly imaginative, but none of the stories blow me away. Apparently it is Neapolitan fairy tales that the film is based on. I must admit, I've never heard of it before. I didn't find the stories spectacular and actually a bit bizarre. Didn't always feel well-rounded either.
