The Kiss plot

"Don't do it with your eyes closed."

When the sisters Felice and Hilary were children, they were separated to both live with other people. Felice lived with a relative with an unusual bloodline who was passed on to Felice through a kiss. Now, years later, Felice is a successful woman, and Hilary is happily married to Jack, and has a daughter, Amy. Then Felice calls Hilary to say she wants to transfer her bloodline to another family member. When Hilary dies after the phone call, Felice joins Hilary's family to try to pass her bloodline on to daughter Amy...

Atmospheric, fun occult horror work with a number of original kills where the story is built up nicely to the climax. The final scene is fun despite Amy's constant slipping into the pool because of the successful effects for that time. The cast does a great job, especially Joanna Pacula knows how to play her role really well. In addition, this demonic attractive aunt can also be seen naked. Nice 80's horror! 7/10

Half off after review. That aunt Felice is not pure was already given away in the first scene, but how that would reveal itself, that was not immediately clear. In any case, it is something different than zombies, vampires or serial killers. The film is otherwise populated by a group of mediocre actors/actresses (although Salenger can be seen in a swimsuit), and the film takes too long before it finally gets a bit exciting.

I actually only know Joanna Pacula from Gorky Park (1983), a role that made a deep impression at the time. Yet, that apparently didn't lead to a breakthrough for her career, because what followed was a somewhat downward spiral of bit parts and B-movies, if I may put it that way, if I may put it somewhat irreverently. And perhaps I'm wrong, because I don't think I've even seen a fair number of her films.

And perhaps the same goes for Mimi Kuzyk—I remember her from Hill Street Blues. I think she's a pretty decent actress, and definitely not ugly—and I mean that as an understatement. She never really broke through, though. Apparently, it takes more than that.

Participating in a B-movie like this certainly didn't help. It's not bad per se, but it's just another one of those movies where you don't really benefit as an actor. Not enough to appeal to a mainstream audience, and not enough uniqueness to achieve anything close to cult status. Too little inspiration, no spark to make it anything.

Perhaps that's also largely due to director Pen Densham. After three films, two of which were subpar, he apparently became a producer. To each his own.
