Typical Melissa McCarthy movie.

Not too great in other words, but still entertaining. There are certainly some successful jokes, but there are just as many that fall flat. Furthermore, always a comedy that obediently sticks to the American formula, with the classic pre-finale dip that completely takes the momentum out of it.

On the other hand ... pure comedies have become quite rare and all those dramadies are not a great replacement. Some crude humor is sometimes quite enjoyable, unfortunately you have to dig deep for it these days. I do appreciate a character like Dinklage, stupid, but also just weird and fun.

It is certainly not high-quality, but precisely because it is harder to find it is still quite solid and watchable. I will never be a big McCarthy fan, but for lack of anything better, this film is not a dramatic option. But don't expect too much from it, because it is and remains formulaic.

2.5*

Watched it with my daughters because I was getting fed up with the bland, well-behaved children's films.

If I had turned on the movie alone one night, it wouldn't have been on for half an hour. OMG! The humor is so forced, often childish and also often vulgar. The story is worthless. But the howling laughter of my children made up for a lot. The whole movie also reminds me a bit of a children's movie, except that there are a lot of jokes that many parents probably don't want to expose their children to.

I actually expected quite a lot from this film because Melissa McCarthy plays the lead role. Although I certainly laughed, I don't think it's a rock-solid comedy film. The film isn't bad, but it just wasn't the highest level of quality we're used to from Melissa McCarthy. Here and there I have some doubts about the storyline and it's not entirely realistic, but with a comedy you shouldn't pay too much attention to that and it's mainly about whether it's funny. So The Boss is fun to watch, but not a film you should see right now.
