Very varied film.

Rittikrai helped launch the Thai action film, both as a director and as an action choreographer. Without him, we probably wouldn't have known Tony Jaa. So, he definitely deserves a tribute.

Oddly enough, this Rew Thalu Rew repeatedly violates the rules that made Thai action films so popular. The train scene, in particular, is a thorn in the side, with its appalling CG and ridiculously fake stunts. If Thai action films stood for anything, it was action scenes without CG.

A little bit doesn't bother me. The fact that the football in the first action scene is often fake is fine, it's still a great action ballet. The subsequent action scene (filmed from behind the legs of an intruder) is also well-crafted. It's therefore all the more strange that Rittikrai occasionally let himself go a bit. For example, the final scene with the guns is a bit weak. Half the time, the shots aren't even aimed in the direction. I find such things difficult to understand (and accept).

The story is rather flat, and when there's no action, the film quickly collapses. Still, there's plenty to enjoy, but it's clear that Thai action cinema is in a slump, and Rittikrai wouldn't have pulled it out single-handedly. Still, I'm disappointed he won't be part of the next revival. People like Woo-ping Yuen have proven they can always turn things around.

For action fans, there's still a lot to enjoy here, but you'll need to be able to look past some very bad moments.

Mediocre action film. The story has very little substance, but that's to be expected with this type of film. Unfortunately, the execution is also disappointing. Some action scenes are quite decent and beautifully shot, but the further the film progresses, the more disjointed it becomes. It all looks very contrived. The film also jumps around, as if parts have been cut out. The action scenes were probably conceived first, and the story was built around them. What a mess. The acting could be better. 2.0/2.5
