The Coven plot

"Playtime is over."

Five teenage girls are captivated by the stories they've heard at school about the Coven: a clearing in the woods surrounded by thirteen old oak trees. A few years ago, seven people disappeared without a trace there during Halloween. And now the girls are planning to spend the night there for Halloween. In the Coven they see that someone has recently scratched the name 'LUCIFER' into the ground. One of the girls wants to act tough and writes her name and that of her friends under the appropriate initials. This leaves two letters: the L and the E. And then the five end up in a horrific nightmare...

Unclear and extremely messy fantasy film that throws all sorts of angles together and then never manages to put them together, a chaotic impression that is reinforced by the fact that The Coven was simply a family project behind the scenes. Director John Mackie directs a film that is truly impossible to oversee and that itself does not seem to know exactly what it wants to be. There is a lot going on, but the makers never come close to any form of tension and/or atmosphere. Characters walk past each other, run into each other, then run away from each other, babble some weak dialogues and some eventually get the short end of the stick, or something like that. The Coven is completely impossible to follow, but this is mainly due to the fact that this cinematic gang simply never invites you to follow it. A heavy and extremely tiring sit that requires a lot of stamina from the viewer.
