Kirk Cameron, you all know him, of course. I don't think I've ever seen a child role in Growing Pains. Anyway, the man is quite fond of the Lord, and we should know that.

Saving Christmas is a religious propaganda film in which Kirk, through all sorts of crazy stories, tells his brother-in-law Christian (a subtle choice of name, mind you) that the current Christmas celebration is a worthy celebration of Jesus Christ, while Christian doesn't think it's Biblical enough. And then there's some nonsense about the War on Christmas, because those ugly liberals can't stand it when people enjoy Christmas. It's truly unbearable; everything about it is awful. There's practically no story, just random stories Kirk tells Christian (more or less), and of course, Christian's conversion into someone who enjoys Christmas. These stories are heavily religious, sometimes full of nonsense (his theory about Christmas trees is quite bizarre), and of course, there's the occasional jab at political correctness or malicious leftists. And to make matters worse, all these stories are so poorly acted and cheaply portrayed that the Christian didacticism isn't even the biggest problem. Whether it's the attempts at humor or the awkward dance at the end, it's another worthy contender for the IMDb Bottom 10, where it holds a respectable 7th place.

Good heavens, this crap made it to theaters in the United States! Not only do Cameron and Doane pull out all the stops to fix what's wrong, but nothing actually happens in this monstrosity. And the quality is simply awful, not even TV-worthy. I know films can be a bit restrained and visually not everything needs to be splashed off the screen for the entire running time, but the way the disgusting explanation of where Santa Claus, trees, decorations, presents, and so on come from is presented in the most lifeless way. My sweetheart and I love watching bad movies, but we thought we'd already hit rock bottom. Last night, it turned out that this thing is a lot deeper than we thought.
