The Smell of Us plot

Every day a group of children meet at the Dome, behind the Museum of Modern Art and opposite the Eiffel Tower. They skateboard, fool around or get stoned, ignoring the many art lovers. Connected by complicated family ties, they are inseparable. Boredom, the temptation to make a quick buck and the anonymity of the Internet all play a role in the deterioration of their future.

My first Clark was not exactly to my liking. Perhaps not the best to start with, but that's how it turned out. The film is a rather lifeless collage of marginalities that feels mainly gratuitous. A coherent atmosphere is unfortunately also absent, partly due to the horrible soundtrack and a lack of visual finesse. The film does have a few nice scenes, although they were mainly nice because they were quite funny (with mother and son). Which to me did not seem to be the intended effect.

In a strange way, the film still managed to be reasonably captivating, at least not boring. But there was no moment when Clark really managed to impress me. The film felt listless and meaningless. 2*.

A film that felt more like a documentary. The film lacks a clear plot or line and is more observational. Confronting also how young people from a certain subculture of skating, sex and drugs tried to survive. I am not even completely sure whether it was a forced choice for everyone.

A film that gets under the skin of the characters. Not least because of some spicy or daring scenes, with each other, but also as a prostitute.

I don't really know the director, but it's hard to fathom his motives. All in all not that bad, but I'm certainly not convinced.
