Solid film about a little boy who gets sucked into a conflict during the First World War in the Middle East. Although the content is not great for me, I did enjoy the beautiful desert landscapes and excellent cinematography.

Excellent acting from the young man, although I was perhaps a little too little involved with the character to stay with me for long. I just missed that little bit extra. The same with the plot, by the way. Although it can be nuanced that the boy is not a professional actor at all. The vistas in the film are indeed somewhat reminiscent of the classic Lawrence of Arabia (but I didn't think that was a highlight either).

It is 1916 when a British officer [Jack Fox] in the Ottoman province of Hijaz enlists the help of Bedouins to help him undertake a dangerous journey through the desert to a secret location. Theeb [Jacid Eid Al-Hwietat] accompanies his older brother Hussein [Hussein Salameh Al-Sweilhiyeen] on this journey that turns into a war of attrition and a game of cat and mouse with an injured stranger [Hassan Mutlag Al-Maraiyeh] who was most likely involved in a skirmish in which the British officer was killed. Abu Noward had the role of the Bedouin played by amateurs and that appears to be no obstacle, especially since this exciting film lends a lot of power to the thoughtful pace and beautiful locations that enhance the feeling of isolation more than an actor could. And there is a strong, surprising denouement.

Desolate places where everyone fights their own battle with themselves and their environment. Cinematically beautiful images, curiosity vs reality.
