What drives young Western men to leave everything and everything behind and travel to Syria to join other people's struggles? It all started with a radio message. Mourad M. is the first Dutchman to have died in Syria in the fight against the regime of President Bashar al Assad. He had gone to Syria with a group of friends to fight Jihad. Filmmaker Floor van der Meulen knew some of them from the neighborhood of her youth. Boys portrayed by the media as vulnerable and derailed youth who could pose a terrorist threat. But is this image correct? In order to understand why they feel compelled to take up arms there and leave everything familiar behind them, the filmmaker lets go of the Western perspective to get into the experience of the fighters.
