The Dove plot

The truth-based story of 16-year-old Robin Lee Graham who made a solo trip around the world in his sailboat 'The Dove'. During his journey he has to cope with storms, towering waves and days of calm, but also boredom and loneliness. In a harbor he meets a young woman, Patti Ratteree, who is also traveling around the world. They fall for each other and Robin actually wants to end his journey.

What do I see, no votes at all for this iconic film from the seventies? Saw it for the first time on TV after the film was released and was thoroughly impressed. Always difficult to indicate exactly why. I think because of the feeling of freedom that the film evokes. The idea that anything is possible in life. That you have to persevere and sometimes suffer. And of course the romantic aspect, with the beautiful Deborah Raffin, with whom you can easily fall in love. But that not everything has a happy ending in life. Oh well, maybe I'm getting too carried away...

The film could not be found for years. With a lot of effort, it turned up on a website somewhere a few years ago. When I saw it again the film was still beautiful, beautifully made, but it no longer had that magic of the time. Beautiful memories should be cherished and not repeated. But for those who haven't seen it yet: watch it and feel the wind in your hair and the splashing water on your face. The title song will never leave your mind.
