Het Dorp plot

Actor Huub Stapel and Dutch artist Wim Daniëls, two village boys pur sang, travel through the Netherlands on their motorcycle with sidecar. They go in search of the soul of 'the village'. They try to unravel typical village phenomena. More and more villages seem unable to keep their heads above water; facilities are disappearing and young people are moving away. They wonder what is left of the village life from their youth, and want to know whether the village in the Netherlands still has a future. Everything happens in Dutch cities, it is often assumed. That while more than two-thirds of the Dutch population lives in rural areas. But are villages in the Netherlands really bad, or are they more alive than ever?
