A Friend of the Family is based on the harrowing true story of the Broberg family, whose daughter Jan was kidnapped multiple times over the years by a charismatic, obsessed family friend. The true story of the Broberg family, who are also central to the popular Netflix documentary Abducted in Plain Sight. Unfortunately, Robert Berchtold was never held accountable for his crimes, and committed suicide in November 2005 at the age of 69.
A dramatized version of this true story about the kidnapping and rape of Jan Broberg. Definitely recommended for viewers who followed Abducted in Plain Sight.

The first two episodes look promising, but then...why limit it to 4 or 5 episodes when 9 will do just fine...?
Moreover, besides being long-winded, I found the storyline to occasionally have some hiccups the FBI agent who lends his weapon to a desperate mother for a while, the mother's clothes before and after her intimate experience with B... and this in addition to the almost unbelievable bottlenecks (but, yes, the Mormons, you know) in the events, make me rather disappointed.
It is good, however, that such films or series point out to us the dangers that can affect an innocent, ignorant and gullible teenager.
