Billie vs Benjamin plot

Billie and Benjamin meet when they're both on a bachelorette weekend. They seem like a match made in heaven. Until a banal discussion brings out the left-wing 'bitch' in Billie and the right-wing 'cock' in Benjamin. The love between them is great, but their contradictions soon threaten to become even greater.

Billie vs Benjamin season 1

Series that is also somewhat politically oriented and based on the two extremes of left and right. It soon becomes "painfully" apparent that there are vastly opposing views between Benjamin and Billie's view of the world. Yet they fall in love and as long as it's not about such themes they get along just fine. Somehow I thought it lacked some depth in these kinds of discussions and extreme right-wing Tommie is portrayed rather stereotypically as a drunk fringe. Yes, there are also extreme right-wing figures, but there are also highly educated right-wing people who are slightly more moderate, like Benjamin. The extreme left is also portrayed in such a stereotyped way: lesbian, (crass?), climate-crazed, pro-migration, anti-children, anti-police state. . Charlotte and Ward have a great chemistry and I definitely want a second season. A daring series that, due to the two extreme political angles, is, in my opinion, undervalued and perhaps hated somewhere? The right side hates the left and vice versa.

Billie vs Benjamin season 1

Interesting and original to use a political theme in a series. Thumbs up for this brave premise. However, when Flemish filmmakers cast a left-right discussion into a series, you just know in advance that the right side will be demonized and you won't get a clear view of what they really stand for. That expectation also came true in Billie vs Benjamin, where Benjamin's right-wing friends are a bunch of backward, flat Antwerpers who are not afraid to use violence. In the end they even kill an unborn child. They are completely unlikable. The left-wing girls, on the other hand, can only be accused of being unworldly and naive.

The series is not very pleasant to watch, I became very nervous and uncomfortable from the many discussions and arguments. The reference to Schild and Vrienden was also very clear with 'Avondland'.

Charlotte Timmers is of course a very handsome chick to watch and acts quite well. The other actors and actresses also give their best. Editing was cool and creative. All in all nice to have seen, but certainly not more than once.

Billie vs Benjamin season 2

“Woke is my coke.”

Laughed out loud with this one-liner from the left-wing slam poet Marie. For the rest, there was precious little to laugh at and the drama dominated more than ever. Where the previous season ended in bitter tears with a miscarriage, here they went one step further and ended Benjamin in the friend zone with a dead father. Throughout the series, Benjamin and Billie are yelling at each other. Really not enjoyable.

Charlotte Timmers is one of the most beautiful and talented actresses of the moment, but she cannot straighten things out. Jeroen Perceval still plays an equally annoying character. Every episode was a struggle for me to survive the misery and bickering.

The final message seems to be that the polarization between left and right is too bad to build an amorous relationship. I don't think things are going that fast. In my experience, what Thierry Baudet once said about this is true, namely that left-wing women change their minds quite quickly if you talk about politics enough. My own wife was also very left-wing when I met her as a VUB student. After ten years she passed me on the right without me really doing anything about it. I would like to end the review with this hopeful conclusion.
