But almost as characteristic of the region are its eventful history full of colorful characters and bitter conflicts, and its rich and varied 'melting pot' culture. Enough material for Simon Reeve to investigate and gather stories. Along the way, he not only has an eye for the beautiful coasts and exotic islands, but also for political and cultural conflicts, ecology, unemployment, poverty and drug violence. The journey takes Simon Reeve from the slums of Haiti to luxurious tourist resorts, from the beaches of Barbados to the oil fields of Venezuela, and from the jungles of St. Vincent Island to the drug-ravaged streets of Honduras.
