Brabançonne plot
The Flemish harmony Sint-Cecilia from Staaikerke and the Walloon harmony En Avant have both been selected for the grand European final. The Walloon En Avant presents the fantastic trumpeter Hugues. Hugues is so great during his solo that Willy, from the Flemish Sint-Cecilia, has to give everything. The highest note, the longest note, the last note. Willy drops dead on the spot.

A separate story with a lot of singing that doesn't immediately lift the whole thing to a higher level; the lipsync also looked very distressing at times. Because of things like that, the film couldn't really grab me at any point and it ends up being a rather long sit-in with an unnecessary (and too weak) ending.

A musical (as a film) from Belgium, actually. That's new to me. Quite a nice approach that way. In terms of content, it may have all been a bit too light, but some love has been put into the film. There are many villages with our own harmony and they are certainly not all pensioners who are members. Fortunately, those folkloric events continue to do reasonably well.
No big star cast here in the leading roles, but many familiar faces in the supporting roles with Verbist, Audenaert, Peeters, Van Impe ... However, I found the plot bizarre, which created a kind of Flanders-Wallonia feud between two harmonies. Little harmony to be found in each case.
The story sometimes plays a trick on itself and does not get rid of the towering movie cliché of an impending marriage that suddenly explodes when a complete nobody (often still a womanizer) crosses the path. But all in all charming, but not a high flyer.
