Like so many women, the program maker Ingeborg Beugel (53) was completely taken by surprise. She was irritable, confused, depressed, unmanageable and no longer interested in sex. Beugel went to live alone and took a man besides her regular partner. Much too late, Beugel learned that these drastic changes in her life had to do with something she thought would never happen to her: the menopause. To her own surprise, Beugel was totally unprepared and knew almost nothing about it. In this documentary she is therefore looking for answers to questions that everyone has, but hardly anyone dares to ask. Is menopause a cruel natural phenomenon that women can only accept? Or is the suffering really manageable and combatable?
