The poster for this Thriller/Horror film appealed to me and that is partly why I watched this film by our Dutch director Ate de Jong.

The rather hard and crude story (revolving around revenge), which starts almost immediately, certainly managed to captivate and entertain me. But for me, as a fan of sick horror films, the torture (including cutting off fingers) and humiliation (including tying) could have been depicted even more explicitly and harshly, because now I thought it was not really shocking or intense, while of course it was hard and rough. Even though the story only really revolves around three people (the couple Tom and Alison with a tragic past and the intruder Aaron) and it mainly takes place in the house of the couple Tom and Alison, it never really became boring or long-winded.

I thought the twist in the story was quite good (it also explains the reason for the intruder) and the ending was even strong and hard, although it was perhaps a bit exaggerated (especially with regard to the reaction of Tom) . What intruder Aaron did to the couple does not deserve the beauty prize, to put it mildly, but the real bastard was of course Tom. To be honest, I had never heard of the unknown cast, but they did a good and convincing job and I thought Megan Maczko was quite a nice appearance to see. In that respect, it is a pity that there is very little nudity to be seen of her, while there were more than enough opportunities for this.

Just a nice hard Thriller that I watched with fascination (nice pun on this film ).

A ridiculous plot, a weak sack of potatoes as a psycho, an audiovisual gray mouse, and torture that can only be greeted with yawns by anyone who is used to a little horror. As soon as torture takes place, the cameraman obediently turns his camera the other way. Poor for a film that largely focuses on the torture/humiliation theme. It never became harsh or disturbing, but it was a bit hilarious. Mainly thanks to the ridiculous ending.

I've seen this film compared to Funny Games several times, but even that is a masterpiece compared to this tepid junk. 1* for an occasionally nice soundtrack.

The international excursion of the Dutch director Ate de Jong is mainly salty and unmotivated. Moreover, the concept of a home invasion has been redone countless times and the lack of risk in the case of Deadly Virtues ensures that it will not make a lasting impression among its competitors. In terms of content, the makers try to benefit from the psychology presented, but this appears rather simple and unconvincing. The characters' personalities are too obvious and the acting looks artificial and wooden. Some sporadically mean moments liven things up a bit, but otherwise I found it mostly cursory and uninterestingly put together.
